Eating Better is asking for:
- action by the UK Government to embed food, health and sustainability into policy development
- people to halve their meat and dairy and to buy better, for that which they do eat
- food businesses to grasp the opportunities offered by a move towards less and better meat and dairy by supporting their customers to make this change
Eating Better is building and equipping a strong alliance of civil society organisations calling for action from people, business and government to change the way we eat and produce our food. Meat and dairy needs to make up a smaller proportion of our diets.
We need urgent action to reduce meat consumption of at least 50% by 2030 in high consuming countries including the UK.
The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement commitments to keep global temperature rise within safe limits cannot be met without including dietary change as a priority solution.
There has been good progress so far, with movement on the high street, regular new products and ideas developing and then becoming mainstream and a growing interest in plant based eating. Understanding of the importance of choosing meat and dairy from sustainable farming systems is developing. But, an acceleration of action is required.
