“The connections between health, climate and diets have never been clearer. Dietary shift presents one of the biggest opportunities to tackle the joint crises of health and climate. Therefore, we are delighted to welcome UKHACC into Eating Better. They bring passion, knowledge and connections across the health profession. We look forward to working with them alongside our current members to transform our food system.” - Sarah Wakefield, Executive Director, Eating Better
Empowering health professionals to talk about sustainable food systems
The UK Health Alliance on Climate Change (UKHACC) is an alliance of UK health organisations representing more than one million health professionals. Together, they advocate for just responses to the climate and ecological crisis, promote the health benefits that flow from those responses, and empower health professionals to lead in demonstrating action.
Elaine Mulcahy, Director, UKHACC said:
"Transforming the food system to make the changes needed to respond to the climate crisis also presents an opportunity to huge public health benefits and reduce financial pressure on the health service. A joined up approach to policy development and action is our best chance of ensuring we achieve a healthier food system that is good for people and planet. We are pleased to be a member of the Eating Better alliance as it plays a central role in bringing organisations with a common aim together to find workable solutions."
Eating Better collaborated with UKHACC on our 'Health professionals and sustainable diets: Policy and understanding' resource and we are looking forward to working with them to advocate for further understanding of healthy and sustainable food systems within the healthcare profession.
