Adfree Cities is a network of groups challenging corporate outdoor advertising and reclaiming public space for art, community and nature. They have experience - and successes - from work to challenge other harmful advertising such as SUVs, airlines, fossil fuels and gambling; and they have a network of volunteer-led groups around the UK who are resisting outdoor advertising where they live, with the aim of creating happier, healthier cities free from the pressures of corporate ads - where we can prioritise community, art, nature, those things citizens really need to thrive.
Nicola Wilks, Outreach Director at Adfree Cities said:
“We're delighted to join the Eating Better alliance. Working in partnership is essential for social justice, climate and food movements, and we're looking forward to opportunities for collaboration among this wide-reaching and diverse group of organisations. We already work with many organisations across the food, climate, animal welfare and farming sectors, to challenge the power and influence of Big Meat and Dairy advertising, particularly in outdoor spaces where the majority of food advertising is for factory farmed or ultra processed meat and dairy - and we very much support the aims of the alliance in shifting power away from this industry towards localised, sustainable food.”
Rebecca Sunter, Interim Executive Director at Eating Better said:
“We're delighted to welcome Adfree Cities, a close collaborator since 2024, as a member of the Eating Better alliance. We back their work to expose harmful advertising, and look forward to working together to curb corporate adverts promoting industrially produced meat and dairy that harm humans, animals and the planet."
