Eating Better has added these hugely respected organisations to its alliance of over 50 to accelerate action for less and better meat and dairy for health, environment, animal welfare and social justice. They aim to inspire and equip people, business and government, so that we can all eat better.
Four Paws is an international animal welfare charity taking direct action and campaigning across 13 countries. The New Economics Foundation is the UK's biggest people-powered think tank, working to build a new economy where people really take control. The RSPCA is the oldest and largest animal welfare charity and RSPCA Assured is its ethical food label dedicated to farm animal welfare.
Brian Da Cal, Four Paws Country Director, has said ‘we are proud to be joining the Eating Better alliance. As an animal welfare organisation, we encourage people to eat less meat, and better meat from farming systems that use higher animal welfare practices. It’s a great opportunity for us to work with other like-minded organisations to invoke real positive change for animals, for humans and for the planet.’
Griffin Carpenter, New Economics Foundation Senior Researcher, has said ‘our diets have a huge impact on the environment. Both the our collective eating habits and the wider food system need to change if we’re to make a lasting difference. At the New Economics Foundation we challenge the economic decision-making that has shaped the current food system and work to develop a better alternative through partnerships including the Eating Better alliance.’
Chris Sherwood, RSPCA Chief Executive, has said ‘since it was established five years ago, the Eating Better Alliance has served to coordinate the efforts of a range of organisations with the collective aim of encouraging and supporting some important changes in the food and farming industries. Some key aspects of its mission, particularly the call for a fairer future for farm animals, clearly resonate with ours so we're very happy to be joining the alliance.’
Clive Brazier, RSPCA Assured Chief Executive, has said ‘RSPCA Assured has been striving to improve farm animal welfare in the UK since it was established as Freedom Food almost twenty-five years ago. Our goal is to encourage people to eat less low welfare food and choose better animal products by promoting the benefits of higher welfare agriculture. Supporting Eating Better is an easy choice. It’s a strong alliance of like-minded organisations which stand for a fairer, greener, healthier future. We look forward to working with other alliance members and achieving great things together.’
Simon Billing, Eating Better Executive Director, has said ‘we are absolutely privileged to have these hugely respected organisations joining the alliance who will bring significant expertise, long standing experience and thought leadership in animal welfare, environmental protection and social justice. This signals the further momentum behind less and better meat and dairy.'
